The snake is one of the oldest and most widespread mythological symbols. The ancient Egyptians saw snakes/serpent's as representing royalty and deity, one of the most notable being Cleopatra. Over time different civilisation's have interpreted the serpent in different ways the Romans interpreted the snake as a symbol of ever lasting love and in Hinduism the snake represents sexual passion and desire.
Snake jewellery was very popular in the Victorian era, after Queen Victoria proposed to prince Albert on the 15th October 1839 just five days after he had arrived at Windsor castle, prince Albert presented her with an engagement ring in the form of a snake.
The snake ring is still known today by many as a symbol of eternal love, the perfect gift for the one you love, on that special occasion.
