Sapphire is the birthstone for September and the gem of the 45th wedding anniversary. A sapphire jubilee occurs after 65 years.

A pinkish orange variety of sapphire is called padparadscha and to find them in a good quality is very rare, they are mostly found in Sri Lanka but are also found in Madagascar Tanzania and Vietnam. These padparadscha sapphires are also known as the king of sapphires and can fetch astronomical prices.

Sapphire deposits are mostly found in Australia, Africa, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, Colombia, India, South east Asia.
