<p>Love is like a butterfly it goes where it pleases and it pleases wherever it goes.</p>
<p>Butterflies have four different life stages. During their short lifetime, they undergo a complete change, or metamorphosis. Each one begins life as an egg, hatches into a caterpillar, pupates into a chrysalis and then emerges as an adult. Butterflies need warmth to be active and fly, and they need to drink nectar for energy. Provide both, and you’ll have a butterfly haven. Try to plant plenty of different nectar plants that flower throughout spring, summer and autumn, in a sheltered, sunny spot.<br />

<p>are <a title="Insect" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect">insects</a> in the <a title="Macrolepidoptera" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrolepidoptera">macrolepidopteran</a> <a title="Clade" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clade">clade</a> Rhopalocera from the <a title="Order (biology)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_(biology)">order</a> <a title="Lepidoptera" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lepidoptera">Lepidoptera</a>, which also includes <a title="Moth" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moth">moths</a>. Adult butterflies have large, often brightly coloured wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight. The group comprises the large <a class="mw-redirect" title="Superfamily (zoology)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfamily_(zoology)">superfamily</a> <a title="Papilionoidea" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papilionoidea">Papilionoidea</a>, which contains at least one former group, the skippers (formerly the superfamily &#8220;Hesperioidea&#8221;), and the most recent analyses suggest it also contains the moth-butterflies (formerly the superfamily &#8220;Hedyloidea&#8221;). Butterfly fossils date to the <a title="Paleocene" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleocene">Paleocene</a>, about 56 million years ago.</p>
<p>Butterflies have a four-stage life cycle, as like most insects they undergo <a title="Holometabolism" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holometabolism">complete metamorphosis</a>. Winged adults lay eggs on the food plant on which their <a title="Larva" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larva">larvae</a>, known as <a title="Caterpillar" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caterpillar">caterpillars</a>, will feed. The caterpillars grow, sometimes very rapidly, and when fully developed, <a title="Pupa" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pupa">pupate</a> in a <a class="mw-redirect" title="Chrysalis" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysalis">chrysalis</a>. When <a title="Metamorphosis" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorphosis">metamorphosis</a> is complete, the pupal skin splits, the adult insect climbs out, and after its wings have expanded and dried, it flies off. Some butterflies, especially in the tropics, have several generations in a year, while others have a single generation, and a few in cold locations may take several years to pass through their entire life cycle.</p>
<p>Butterflies are often <a title="Polymorphism (biology)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymorphism_(biology)">polymorphic</a>, and many species make use of <a title="Camouflage" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camouflage">camouflage</a>, <a title="Mimicry" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimicry">mimicry</a>, and <a title="Aposematism" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aposematism">aposematism</a> to evade their predators.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly#cite_note-1">[1]</a> Some, like the <a class="mw-redirect" title="Monarch (butterfly)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarch_(butterfly)">monarch</a> and the <a title="Vanessa cardui" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanessa_cardui">painted lady</a>, <a title="Insect migration" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect_migration">migrate</a> over long distances. Many butterflies are attacked by <a class="mw-redirect" title="Parasite" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasite">parasites</a> or <a title="Parasitoid" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitoid">parasitoids</a>, including <a title="Parasitoid wasp" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitoid_wasp">wasps</a>, <a title="Protozoa" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protozoa">protozoans</a>, <a title="Fly" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly">flies</a>, and other invertebrates, or are <a title="Predation" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predation">preyed upon</a> by other organisms. Some species are pests because in their larval stages they can damage domestic crops or trees; other species are agents of <a title="Pollination" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollination">pollination</a> of some plants. Larvae of a few butterflies (e.g., <a title="Miletinae" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miletinae">harvesters</a>) eat harmful insects, and a few are predators of <a title="Ant" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant">ants</a>, while others live as <a title="Mutualism (biology)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutualism_(biology)">mutualists</a> in association with ants. Culturally, butterflies are a popular motif in the visual and literary arts. The <a title="Smithsonian Institution" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smithsonian_Institution">Smithsonian Institution</a> says &#8220;butterflies are certainly one of the most appealing creatures in nature&#8221;.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly#cite_note-2">[2]</a></p>

<p>To ward off goblins and evil spirits from their homes, the people hung iron horseshoes over their front doors.<br />
Horseshoes have long been considered lucky. They were originally made of iron, a material which was believed to ward off evil spirits, and traditionally were held in place with seven nails, seven being the luckiest number.<br />
The superstition acquired a further Christian twist due to a legend surrounding the 10th century saint Dunstan who worked as a blacksmith before becoming Archbishop of Canterbury. The legend recounts that, one day, the Devil walked into Dunstan s shop and asked him to shoe his horse. Dunstan pretended not to recognize him, and agreed to the request; but rather than nailing the shoe to the horse’s hoof, he nailed it to the Devil’s own foot, causing him great pain. Dunstan eventually agreed to remove the shoe, but only after extracting a promise that the Devil would never enter a household with a horseshoe nailed to the door<br />
Sailors believe that nailing a horseshoe to the mast will help their vessel avoid storms.</p>

Exceptions include the diurnal <a title="Northern hawk-owl" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_hawk-owl">northern hawk-owl</a> and the gregarious <a title="Burrowing owl" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrowing_owl">burrowing owl</a>.</p>
<p>Owls hunt mostly small <a title="Mammal" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammal">mammals</a>, <a title="Insect" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect">insects</a>, and other birds, although a few species specialize in hunting <a title="Fish" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish">fish</a>. They are found in all regions of the Earth except the polar ice caps and some remote islands.</p>
<p>Owls are divided into two <a title="Family (biology)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_(biology)">families</a>: the <a title="True owl" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_owl">true (or typical) owl</a> family, Strigidae, and the <a title="Barn-owl" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn-owl">barn-owl</a> family, Tytonidae.</p>
<p>A group of owls is called a &#8220;parliament&#8221;.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owl#cite_note-1">[1]</a></p>
<p>Owls possess large, forward-facing eyes and ear-holes, a <a title="Hawk" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawk">hawk</a>-like <a title="Beak" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beak">beak</a>, a flat face, and usually a conspicuous circle of feathers, a <a title="Facial disc" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facial_disc">facial disc</a>, around each eye. The feathers making up this disc can be adjusted to sharply focus sounds from varying distances onto the owls&#8217; asymmetrically placed ear cavities. Most birds of prey have eyes on the sides of their heads, but the stereoscopic nature of the owl&#8217;s forward-facing eyes permits the greater sense of <a title="Depth perception" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_perception">depth perception</a> necessary for low-light hunting. Although owls have <a title="Binocular vision" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binocular_vision">binocular vision</a>, their large eyes are fixed in their sockets—as are those of most other birds—so they must turn their entire heads to change views. As owls are farsighted, they are unable to clearly see anything within a few centimetres of their eyes. Caught prey can be felt by owls with the use of <a class="mw-redirect" title="Filoplume" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filoplume">filoplumes</a>—hairlike feathers on the beak and feet that act as &#8220;feelers&#8221;. Their far vision, particularly in low light, is exceptionally good.</p>
