City of London Jewellers present our version of the 18ct Yellow-Gold Dearest Ring.
Measurements:- 4.3mm to the top and 2.4mm wide at the back.

18ct Yellow-Gold Dearest Ring RA00669.

The Victorian’s were typically romantic, sentimental and liked to give meaningful gifts such as this 18ct Yellow-Gold Dearest Ring to there loved ones. One of the most sentimental types of jewellery to come out of this era were the acrostic rings.IE dear · precious · adored · loved · beloved · much loved · favourite · cherished · treasured · prized · esteemed · worshipped · idolized ETC. These were rings that used the initials of gemstones to represent letters. Put together, the gemstones would spell a word like regards, dearest or adore. These were basically little love letters full of passion and love.

A dearest ring was the perfect way to tell someone that they were loved. It was given as a token of love and its valuable gemstones and precious metals made a passionate statement. Interestingly, Dearest rings were not typically given as engagement rings.

These stones were often set in a straight line or in a circular flower like pattern, with the diamond in the middle.

The dearest ring is still very popular today and are an excellent way to add some colour to jewellery while sending a meaningful message in the ring design.

In the past, trends in jewellery and accessories were not just influenced by fashion but also by notable aristocrats, including members of the royal family.

Acrostic jewellery such as this 18ct Yellow-Gold Dearest Ring rose in popularity in the 1820s and 1830s. Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837 during what is now considered the Romantic Era. The Victorians are well known for their love of romance and symbolism, so it is no surprise that people were drawn to this acrostic jewellery trend.

There are no set rules as to what design the gemstones should be set, as long as the diamond and coloured gemstones are in the correct order to spell out ‘Dearest’. You may choose to have your gemstones set in a circular pattern or in a straight line or perhaps set into a beautiful engraved pattern. So if you are after a ring that has lots of colour, is a little unusual and has a lovely romantic sentiment, then this is possibly the perfect ring for you!

In my opinion everyone should have several brooches to go with different looks, or at least one for casual wear and one for a more formal dress.

Insect Jewellery Such as this Real Silver bumble Bee Brooch were very popular with the Victorians.
Why did Victorians wear insect jewellery? Partly inspired by the Ancient Egyptians and in partly by a renewed love of nature and the countryside in light of rapid urbanisation, natural motifs like insects were seen as genteel, nurturing and virtuous.

A bumblebee (or bumble bee, bumble-bee, or humble-bee) is any of over 250 species in the genus Bombus, part of Apidae, one of the bee families. This genus is the only extant group in the tribe Bombini, though a few extinct related genera (e.g., Calyptapis) are known from fossils. They are found primarily in higher altitudes or latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, although they are also found in South America, where a few lowland tropical species have been identified. European bumblebees have also been introduced to New Zealand and Tasmania. Female bumblebees can sting repeatedly, but generally ignore humans and other animals.

Silver bumble Bee Brooch.
The word “bumblebee” is a compound of “bumble” + “bee”—”bumble” meaning to hum, buzz, drone, or move ineptly or flounderingly. The generic name Bombus, assigned by Pierre André Latreille in 1802, is derived from the Latin word for a buzzing or humming sound.

This stunning bumble bee brooch reminds us of the power of nature and our surrounding world and the community’s that have evolved on earth are not confined to the human race but many other species, such as the humble bumble bee. This has been inspired buy strong community and fellowship that bees seem to form in the beehive, and this reminds us that life is sweetest when we live together in peace and harmony as does the bumble bee, all working together to improve the result.

Most bumblebees are social insects that form colonies with a single queen. The colonies are smaller than those of honey bees, growing to as few as 50 individuals in a nest. Cuckoo bumblebees are brood parasitic and do not make nests; their queens aggressively invade the nests of other bumblebee species, kill the resident queens and then lay their own eggs, which are cared for by the resident workers. Cuckoo bumblebees were previously classified as a separate genus, but are now usually treated as members of Bombus.

What to look for in a brooch?
Brooches can be simple or flamboyant like this gorgeous Real Silver bumble Bee Brooch, weather they focus on gold or silver or be covered with gemstones or enamel. When selecting a brooch or pin, consider if you want a fun look, classic style, or one that goes best with a favourite outfit. Brooches and pins come in a huge variety of colours and styles so you can celebrate the seasons.

Whatever the occasion, you’ll find the perfect accessory for your outfit in our range of women’s brooches. With beautiful real silver butterfly and assorted silver animal designs to real gold, striking lapel pins and more.

Mystic topaz is quite a new gem, first seen in the 1990s. It is natural colourless white topaz that has been coated, giving it a unique rainbow colour effect. Therefore, it is not a gem type, but is an enhanced clear topaz. Mystic topaz is so-called because of its attractive changing colours that appear deep, mysterious and unusual. Mystic topaz displays a fusion of colours, with greens, blues and purples.
